Being a very young Mother when I lost my children in an auto crash, I was understandably ripped to the core with Grief. I had no Husband nor Children. Who was I now? What do I call Myself? I was not a Mrs. I was no-longer Mommy. If a childs parents die they are called an orphan. If a spouse dies you are called a widow(er). Who was I?? With no education at the time I presented myself to the Social Security Office to file for my "Suvivor's Benefits". I was coldly dismissed, "You are too young for SS. , you must be 62yrs. old (I was 23 at the time) to be eligable or have minor children (my daughters had died mother's day week-end)". What am I supposed to do? I asked. "Rely on family or remarry". I was so shocked at the cruelity of the situation women like myself face. I knew then I no longer had an identity. The person I was before, the identity I had forged for myself before my loss had perrished with my family. Now I was being forced to create a new identity without my family.
So began my long journey through Grief and Triumph. Your new life will never be the Life you had before your Loss but you can create a Life without them (I did) and it can be a "Wonderful Life".
I pray for your Blessing of Healing,
Rev. Betty
